Gavin

I wake up stiff and a little bit sore, but I can’t tell if it’s because the bed was so comfortable that I didn’t move an inch in the night, or if I let my pain medication knock me out for the count. My mouth is raw, but it’s not unbearable.

My bladder aches every time I move, demanding that I get out of this cozy bed and relieve myself. Hearing nothing but the light wind outside and the creeky settling of the house, I assume that I’m awake before anyone else has time to be. Not even the rooster from so early yesterday morning has made an appearance yet.

Going about the bathroom business, I wash my hands and swish some of the soothing and medicated mouthwash through my mouth before paddling back to the bed. The fluffy, warm blankets and oversized pillows are still warm when I hop back in the bed and get comfy.

Wide awake now that I’d gotten up, I swipe my phone from the nightside table and wake it up. I spend a few minutes scrolling through my emails, and I shoot Nolan and Ashlynn both a ‘Merry Christmas Eve’ message. Neither would likely be awake just yet, but I want them both to know that I am okay after yesterday. I know that Nolan and Tanner are concerned.

Thinking about my newly engaged friends, I can’t help but be over the moon excited for them. I couldn’t wait to hear all about the proposal. Ashlynn and I had made a bet at which one would cry. Ashlynn said Tanner, but I had my money on Nolan. He loves his Tanner with a fierceness that I’d only ever seen in movies or read about in books. It gave me a little bit of hope.

I’d need to think of a practical engagement gift for them, but I’d need to do some recon first. What do you get a wealthy lawyer who has everything he could ever want? A coffee pot? He has a fancy one already. Cookware? Got it. A toaster? Pa-lease, he has one that could toast half of a loaf. This is going to require some thought.

Instead, an idea forms when I’m scrolling through gift ideas, and I see an advertisement for an outlet mall in Livingston that’s offering same-day pick up and deliveries until midnight Christmas Day. It would likely cost an arm and a leg for the personal shopper, but I imagine it would make them a whole lot of extra money over the next couple of days.

It seems like an epic deal, especially because I know that malls will be jam-packed today, with people who waited until the very last minute to do their shopping. I wouldn’t mind paying the extra however many percent to get out of having to do it myself.

Scrolling through the virtual aisles, I check to see if I can find anything for Mrs. May, Walker, and the rest of their sweet little family. I never have anyone to
